Plant oils

sunflower oil

Sunflower oil naturally contains Omega 6 which is a polyunsaturated fatty acid, also called linoleic acid. Linoleic acid helps in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels in the blood, when consumed in right level and as a part of a healthy diet.

canola oil

Canola Oil is extracted from the seeds of canola flowers and contains Omega 3 and is high in unsaturated fats. Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats in your diet helps in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels in your blood.

palm oil

Palm oil is a part of the Upfield product portfolio. It is a plant oil, derived from the palm fruit. From a sustainability standpoint, palm oil is a highly productive crop, and like many plant oils has advantages compared with many animal-derived foods, as regards climate impact, land use and water use. Palm oil also has unique properties as a food ingredient, in terms of the performance, texture and taste it offers. To ensure the sustainability of palm oil in our products, all palm oil directly purchased by Upfield is 100% physically certified by RSPO.

What is RSPO?

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a not-for-profit organisation, bringing together stakeholders from across the palm oil supply chain to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

RSPO aims to make sustainable palm oil the norm and to help make palm oil a force for good.

Upfield is a proud member of RSPO and only purchases certified palm oil. With this as a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy, Upfield is not only ensuring the palm oil used in our products comes from sustainable sources, but also that we actively drive change in the palm oil sector.

What does certified sustainable palm oil mean?

Unfortunately, palm oil has been produced irresponsibly in some regions. Deforestation in palm oil supply chains has impacted both wildlife and local communities. In response to the devastating impacts of unsustainable sourcing, Upfield is wholly committed to responsibly sourcing its ingredients, including palm oil, including our commitment to No Deforestation, Peat or Exploitation (NDPE).
RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil has been farmed, processed, distributed, and sold responsibly with strict rules that protect animals, the environment, and people who live and work in palm oil-producing countries. RSPO believes that sustainable palm oil is good for the planet, for people and for protected species. Certified sustainable palm oil helps to:
  1. Halt deforestation;
  2. Treat communities and workers fairly; and
  3. Protect wildlife and the environment.
As an RSPO-certified member, we also ensure unsustainable palm oil production doesn’t take place in the Upfield supply chain and we help drive industry transformation.

to make and keep flora tasty and smooth

The recipe of Flora Original consists of just over one third of water. In Flora Light, the proportion of water is slightly larger, which means that it contains at least 25% less fat than Flora Original. Flora Buttery, on the other hand, is extra creamy as it contains more vegetable oils than Flora Original.

Emulsifiers are listed in the ingredient declaration as mono and diglycerides fatty acids and soy lecithin. We can mix the vegetable oils in Flora with water with the help of emulsifiers. This ensures that Flora consists of oils, but does not contain too much fat.

citric acid

Citric acid is a natural ingredient that keeps Flora fresh longer and guarantees the correct acidity level. Citric acid is a food acid that ensures that antioxidants and preservatives can do their job well. This allows you to keep Flora longer.
